I was recently thinking, what are all the different topic areas an entrepreneur needs to have some knowledge about when starting (or running) a business? It's actually staggering to think about the variety of topics that eventually you need to learn something about. From my own experience running an internet related business:

How to start a business
Raising money
Hiring early employees
Business banking
Business plans
Marketing collateral
Getting a first customer
Product management
Design
Office space
Office equipment
Business credit
Business expenses
Insurance
Accounting
Taxes
Legal
Recruiting
Benefits & Insurance
Human Resources

Distribution Channels
Exits
Payment Processing
Purchasing
Hosting
Payroll
Accounts Payable
SEO
SEM
Social Media
Outsourcing
Strategy
Motivation
Management
Regulations
Board of Directors /Advisers
Salesforce management
Immigration
Negotiation

It's really amazing how many topics you need to have some level of mastery over in order to run a small business! Within each of these categories, I can think of at least 10 questions or issues that have come up.

Welcome to the Explain Business Blog

The Explain Business Blog is a site that provides advice for small business and startups. Hopefully through this blog, we can provide advice for people starting a business, running a small business, or thinking about becoming an entrepreneur.

When you are starting a business, it often feels like you are alone in a field of questions. How do you register a new business? What kind of accounting method should we use? Do I have a good founding team in place? How long should we wait before launching our new product? How do we find a lawyer for our business (and how much should one cost)? Should I write a business plan?

The good news is there are actually answers to many of these questions about starting or running a business. Hopefully this site can a resource to help aspiring entrepreneurs. Looking forward to the journey.
